Legacy is not dependent upon having children.

Legacy is just as important for those who are single and for those who are married without children.

How can that be? Consider how the idea of legacy is often tied to “what you’ll leave behind.” But when we focus on what we leave behind only, I think we miss the point of legacy.

Instead, legacy is about what is lasting. It certainly includes what extends beyond our lifetimes, but ultimately what will last for eternity.

Lasting reward

To put it differently, when we stand before the judgment seat of Christ and He judges the work of those who belong to Him, the question will not be whether we had children or not.

Jesus will ask each of us something to this effect: What did you do with what I put in your hands?

Those with children and those without are equally called to steward all that God has given them. For some, there might be great reward. For others, there might be a little reward. But the question of faithfulness will remain the same.

And accordingly, the opportunity for legacy will still be the same.
