What’s The Best Gift You’ve Ever Received?
What’s the best gift you’ve ever been given?
Not necessarily the most extravagant, or the most costly, but the best gift? For me, it was a book, a simple hardbound book with pictures throughout, with corners now frayed and pages yellowed with age.
Let me explain.
I grew up in a family of six kids, and for most of my early growing up years we never set foot in the door of a church. I never once heard my mom or dad talk about God, heaven or anything spiritual.
But after a house fire forced our family to move to a small town outside of the city limits, we had some neighbors two doors down, Curly and Laura Butner, who began to take an interest in our family. To this day, I’m not sure what motivated them to take action, but they did.
The biggest thing I remember was that children’s Bible story book they brought me. I remember reading for the first time the stories of God—Abraham and Isaac, Moses, Joshua, David & Goliath, the wisdom of Solomon. An entire world came alive for me—a world of faith, hope and love. It changed my life forever.
All because of a simple little gift. A book. It was my greatest gift.
What’s your greatest gift?
