Family Legacy—The Years Really Go Fast
Do you remember the high school graduation of your children?
I remember the sweetness of my first daughter and her birth. I was a fanatic. I wanted to be around her constantly. I took her on her first date when she was just nine months old.
But even as I sought to treasure each moment, I still had people come up and remind me, “Hey, this all goes fast.”
Fast forward through the years—elementary school, junior high, high school, and all the things that go with it. The highs. The lows. So many firsts.
And then one day, or so it seemed, it was her high school graduation. The moment was surreal as she walked across the stage. I didn’t know how to place my feelings—happy, proud, sad, joyous, a sense of loss. They flooded over me.
And I found myself saying, “Wow, this all went so fast.”
Now these days, I find myself with friends nearing a similar finish line, and I say to them, not surprisingly, “Hey, this will all go too fast.”
Treasure the moments, yes. And don’t put off thinking about the legacy you want to build into your family. Live the legacy you desire for your loved ones.
