2 Days to Live

2 Days to Live

by Bill High

The book of Matthew (26.2) records Jesus: “You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified.”

I was having coffee with a friend who told me of a business acquaintance who’d gone in for a physical. After a series of tests, the man was told that he had aggressive and pervasive cancer and that he had 2 days to live. What do you do with that kind of diagnosis and prognosis?

Do you just go home and put your affairs in order? Make some phone calls? Write a few letters? Or party really hard? Stunned with reality.

Jesus knew his prognosis. 2 days to live. He was his own doctor, and he could have been his own deliverer. It must’ve been a terrible weight to carry around–the knowing. The knowing of something unpleasant was coming. And the people around him, those closest to him, didn’t get it. They didn’t appreciate his burden.

2 days to live. What would I do?

Jesus chose to accept his assignment. He fulfilled his mission.

It seems to me that the successful life is the faithful life. The significant life is the generous life.
