I’m not a big believer in New Year’s resolutions.

But I am a big believer in studying the past to make plans for the future. Perhaps you’ve heard the quote: The unexamined life is not worth living. 

As we approach the year end, it’s a great time to conduct some of that self-examination. A simple self-examination is the 7 F’s tool. Grade yourself from a scale of 1-10 in the following areas with 10 being great and 1 being poor. Here they are:

            Faith

            Family

            Friends

            Firm (work)

            Fitness

            Fun

            Finances

It’s a great thing to do with a spouse, and members of the family. It rallies around the simple question of “how are we doing?”

As you conduct this self-examination, it’s an easy place to turn towards crafting a plan for the next year. You can take those same 7 areas and set goals for yourself.

At Vyne Legacy, we place particular emphasis on the examination of family. Go deeper in the review. Put the same scale on each of your relationships within the family—parents, grandparents, children.

Is there a relationship that needs restoration?

Is there a bucket list item that you can check off?

Have you worked on your family vision, mission, and values statement?

Create the book of stories that you can pass on to your children—when you met your spouse, first house, first job, your salvation story, your moments of triumph and your moments of brokenness.
