There’s a new day coming for donor-advised funds.

For nearly 18 years, the Servant Foundation affiliated with the National Christian Foundation. Over that period of time, the Servant Foundation has seen nearly $3 billion in contributions and $2 billion in grants.

Why the new era?

We believe that donor-advised funds are a great tool. But like any tool, the application needs to be right. One of the clear applications is to help families be successful. For that reason, our next chapter of donor-advised funds is family focused.

At the initial level, our first goal is to help families be successful in practicing giving as a family. A giving family sticks together. So we are loading up on practical ways to serve families.

But we’ve also focused on the idea of family legacy. Families want to have an enduring legacy-a set of values that continues from one generation to the next. We’ve developed unique expertise here, but we are going deeper still because it’s what families are expressing as their great desire.

You’ll see more in the coming days, but the next era will include family-focused donor-advised funds. It’s moving beyond transactions. It’s moving to transformation. It’s the next wave of the donor-advised-fund world and we, collectively, get to be part of it.
